Mass. Am: Calef, Thimble survive 3 rounds to reach finale

Ian Thimble and Mike Calef will face off in the finals of the 105th Massachusetts Amateur

LONGMEADOW, Mass. (July 11, 2013) -- Marathon Thursday at the 105th Massachusetts Amateur Championship - which featured three rounds of match play - came to an exciting finish as the sun began to set in Longmeadow. In the end, only two competitors were left standing. Beginning on Friday at 8:00 a.m., Mike Calef (Brockton CC) and Ian Thimble (George Wright GC) will face off in a 36-hole final match at Longmeadow Country Club to determine the 2013 champion. The two warriors battled through not only the originally-scheduled quarterfinal and semifinal matches on Thursday, but they also had to finish the round of 16 matches which had been suspended due to dangerous weather conditions on Wednesday.
