Kyrinis among 1st-round Women's Senior North & South leaders

Judith Kyrinis, the reigning U.S. Women's Senior Amateur champion, is in the hunt at Pinehurst No. 6

PINEHURST, N.C. (Aug. 20, 2018) – A few familiar names are near the top of the North & South Senior Women’s Amateur leaderboard. Among them is Judith Kyrinis, the 2017 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur winner. Kyrinis is tied for first with Susan West and Sue Wooster after an opening round of even-par at Pinehurst No. 6.

Kyrinis, of Canada, had a flawless round going, with just three birdies through 15 holes. But the 54-year-old bogeyed her final three holes coming in to get back to even par.

Kyrinis won this title in 2015 and 2016.

West, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., had a much less eventful day with just one birdie and one bogey on her card. Australian Wooster split four birdies with four bogeys.

Right behind the trio of leaders, Ellen Port is in solo fourth after a 3-over 75. Port was even on the front but 3 over on the back. The 56-year-old is just two weeks removed from her run to match play at the U.S. Women’s Amateur. She also made the cut earlier this summer at the inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open.
