ST. ANDREWS, Fife, Scotland (December 11, 2007) -- Colt Knost of Dallas, Texas, a two-time USGA champion and a member of the victorious USA Walker Cup squad in 2007, has won the first Mark H. McCormack medal, presented by the R&A. The award will be presented at the end of each season to the top-ranked amateur golfer, according to the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Knost won the 2007 U.S. Amateur at The Olympic Club in San Francisco, beating Michael Thompson, 2 and 1. He won the U.S. Amateur Public Links at Cantigny Golf in Wheaton, Ill., over Cody Paladino, 6 and 4. Additionally, he went 2-0-2 in the USA’s 12½-11½ Walker Cup win at Royal County Down Golf Club in Ireland over the amateur team from Great Britain and Ireland in September.
“I am delighted to be the first winner of this award, and to receive it at my home club is something special,” said Knost, who received the award at Royal Oaks Country Club in Dallas from McCormack’s son, Todd, on behalf of the family. “It is the perfect way to sign off my amateur career.”
