Kinhult paces Florida State to Darius Rucker lead

Frida Kinhult made birdie after birdie on Saturday at Long Cove Club, and brought her Seminoles right up the leaderboard with her

Frida Kinhult’s ability to score at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head Island, S.C., has carried her team up the leaderboard. Through two rounds at the Darius Rucker Intercollegiate, the freshman from Sweden has been the firepower behind Florida State’s team lead.

Kinhult, who is among the top-10 ranked players in the world, has had 12 birdies over two days. She leads the individual race by one shot after back-to-back rounds of 3-under 68 and the Seminoles lead the team race by eight. Kinhult is chasing her second win of the spring.

“I played solid golf today,” said Kinhult. “I kept to my game plan and made some putts. I’m going keep doing what I’ve done in the first two days and keep to my routine.”

Florida State’s 3-under 281 was the best team score of the second round. After opening with an even-par round, it got the team to 3 under total. No other team is under par for two days.

Duke, a team that struggled early week with illness and injury, rallied in Round 2 and is in second.

Wake Forest, paced by World No. 1 Jennifer Kupcho’s 3-under 68, is third.

Six shots stand between the Demon Deacons and the next-best team, which is host South Carolina. After playing a steady first round that gave them the early lead, the Gamecocks had a few more bogeys in Round 2 and dropped down the leaderboard.

Furman and LSU are tied for fifth at 15 over.
