Kevin Dougherty builds Southwestern Am lead

Dougherty shot a solid 70 (-2) on a day where gusty winds drove an increase in the average score of the field

GILBERT, Ariz. (June 14, 2012) -- Kevin Dougherty of Murrieta, California, increased his lead in the 97th Annual Southwestern Amateur Golf Tournament at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain, Marana, Arizona, by shooting a solid 70 (-2) on a day where light but sometimes gusty winds and more difficult hole locations drove an increase in the average score of the field. Kevin's third round score gives him a total of 205 (-11) on the Jack Nicklaus Signature Design layout, four shots clear of Michael Davan from Hoopeston, Illinois. Michael shot 71 (-1) today for a three day total of 209 (-7). The low rounds of the day, 68 (-4), belonged to Cameron Harrel from Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Ben Geyer from Arbuckle, California. Cameron improved his position from tied for 20th place to solo third with a three total of 211 (-5). Ben improved his position from tied for 42nd place to tied for 9th place. Other scores of players with Tucson connections include: Dylan Healey 74—212 (-4), Dylan Kornberg 77—220 (+4) and George Cunningham 81—221 (+5). The Cal State Fullerton Team of Mark Anguiano from Whittier, California, and Scott Rubzin from Rancho, California won the Team Challenge Event with a best three score total of 209. They will have their entry fees waived for the 2013 Southwestern Amateur. This year’s tournament will conclude tomorrow, Friday, June 15th, at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club, Dove Mountain with tee-times between 7:00-8:40am. The public is invited to come out and watch these fine players.
