Kansas Match Play: Smell beats Juffer for title

Smell, a recent graduate of Kansas State University, defeated fellow KSU Wildcat teammate Ben Juffer 2 up to claim the 2012 championship

NEWTON, Kan. (July 29, 2012) -- Overland Park's Kyle Smell claimed the 102nd Kansas Amateur Match Play Championship on Sunday at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton. Smell, a recent graduate of Kansas State University, defeated fellow KSU Wildcat teammate Ben Juffer 2 up to claim the 2012 championship. Smell went on a stretch where he won five of six holes in the afternoon portion of the 36-hole match to rally from 3 down with 11 holes to play to take the lead. Juffer came back to extend the match to the 36th hole before Smell rolled in a birdie put to end the match.
