Kansas Match Play: Defending champ Hanna in lead

From The Kansas Golf Association MISSION HILLS, Kan. (July 22, 2014) -- 2013 Kansas Amateur champion Chase Hanna finds himself in the lead again at the 104th Kansas Amateur Championship at Mission Hills Country Club. The KU sophomore fired an opening round 6-under par 64 to take the first round lead in stroke play qualifying. SMU golfer Alex Higgs is two shots back after an opening round 4-under par 66. Former KSU golfer Alex Carney is in third after a 2-under par 68 in the first round. Four additional players posted rounds of 1-under par 69. Stroke play qualifying will continue on Wednesday with the second round of stroke play qualifying to determine the low 64 players that will advance to the 64-player match play bracket on Thursday. The 2014 championship will be held July 21-27 at Mission Hills Country Club. This will be the fourth time Mission Hills CC has hosted the Kansas Amateur. Previous years were 1979, 1989 and 2001.
