Jordan Niebrugge, among five to grab Open Championship berths

Jordan Niebrugge is among the five amateurs who made it through 36-hole qualifying at four different spots in England today

VARIOUS LOCATIONS, England (June 30, 2015) -- American Jordan Niebrugge and four other players have qualified for the next major, The Open Championship being played at The Old Course in July. Niebrugge played at Hillside, where he fired 69-72 to tied for first. At Gailes, Paul Kinnear posted a pair of 70s and survived a three-for-two playoff among those that tied second. Recently turned pro Rhys Davies was left out. At Royal Cinque, Alister Balcombe and Ben Taylor qualified, shooting exact opposite rounds. Balcombe went 67-70, Taylor 70-67. Finally, the luck of the Irish continued at Woburn, where Paul Dunne qualified thanks to a brilliant second round of 65 after a morning 70. Dunne, who graduated from the University of Alabama in April, finished first. And get this, it was almost a year ago to the day that when he qualified for the Open, and it was also at Woburn. Maybe they should make him an honorary member when he turns pro someday. But for now, he's likely hoping for a spot on the GB&I Walker Cup team.
