SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Jon Rahm, a junior from
Arizona State, shot a five-under 66 on Saturday
at TPC Scottsdale and after making the cut at
the PGA TOUR's Waste Management Phoenix
Open, Spain's top-ranked amateur has a shot to
win.
Rahm is just a stroke out of second place, which
is held by Hideki Matsuyama, Brooks Koepka,
and Zach Johnson, while Martin Laird holds first
place by three shots.

Rahm made seven birdies on moving day,
including two in the final four holes to reach the
top-five after a bogey on 14 dropped him back
outside the top-10.
Rahm will try on Sunday to become the
first amateur to win a PGA
TOUR event since fellow Sun Devil Phil Mickelson
did it way back in 1991
at the Northern Telecom Open, a tournament
which eventually became the
Chrysler Classic of Tucson, ending in 2006.
