Jin Cheng fires 62 at Asia-Pacific Amateur

In a rain-delayed first round in Hong Kong, Jin Cheng went low during his last 11 holes to card 8-under

SAI KUNG, Hong Kong — Jin Cheng went on a late round tear at The Clearwater Bay Country Club, beginning with a birdie 3 at the par-4 17th. He eagled the par-5 18th, then fired 5-under 30 on the front nine to card 62 and lead the Asia-Pacific Amateur by two strokes. The first round was delayed by rain, and was not concluded on day one. The remaining players finished their opening round Friday morning. Iowa State golfer Nick Voke, of New Zealand, and Gregory Foo of Singapore came in two back of Cheng at 6-under 64. Foo went bogey-free while Voke, like Cheng, caught fire on the front nine and posted 30. Rongjian Tang of China and Devin Hua of Guam are tied for fourth at 65. Overall, 42 players will begin the second round in red figures, and another 13 are at even-par 70. Round two has begun, and live scoring can be found at the link below.
