Slovenia’s Tim Gornik enjoyed a comfortable victory over Sweden’s Pontus Gad in the third match play round of The Amateur Championship at Royal Cinque Ports today.
The 22-year-old won 5&4 to take his place in this afternoon’s fourth round where he will face England’s Neil Raymond, a 3&2 winner over Scotland’s Adam Dunton.
Royal Cinque Ports member Max Orrin was not deterred by the inclement weather and continued his fine run with a 3&2 victory over Formby’s Paul Kinnear. He said, “I’m looking forward to this afternoon, the weather is not great but I’m looking forward to the challenge and still having fun. My game is good and I am just staying calm and trying to enjoy myself as well as concentrating and focusing on the task. Hopefully I will have another good game this afternoon.”
Australia’s Jordan Zunic awaits Orrin in the next round after he beat Richard James from Aberystwyth 2&1.
Elsewhere, Dane Mads Soegaard ran out of steam against America’s Jim Liu who won by 2&1. Edward Richardson, from Rye, came back from three down at the 12th to level the match against Paul Barjon but the Frenchman rallied to win the match at the 19th. He will take on Ashley Chesters from Hawkstone Park who won 3&2 against South Africa’s Zander Lombard.
Poland’s Adrian Meronk was defeated 3&2 by Italy’s Renato Paratore who will face Haraldur Franklin Magnus, from Iceland, in the last 16.
