Illinois leads Big 10 men's championship after first day

Led by Luke Guthrie, the Illini jumped out to a three-shot lead after Friday's first two rounds

FRENCH LICK, Ind. (April 27, 2012) -- Illinois holds the lead after Day 1 of the Big Ten Championships, carding 16-over for the course after two rounds. Led by individual leader Luke Guthrie, the Fighting Illini senior shot 1-under par (72-71) on the day. The Illini hold a three-shot lead entering the third round, while Michigan State (+19) sits in second. Guthrie has a two-stroke lead over Northwestern's Sam Chien, who finished 1-over on the day. The third round is slated for Saturday afternoon, with round four taking place on Sunday.
