Hutchison laps field in 10-shot McClure Cup victory

Thomas Hutchison, a UC Davis sophomore, pulled far ahead of the rest of the field at Bayonet Black Horse

SEASIDE, Calif. (Jan. 7, 2018) – UC Davis sophomore Thomas Hutchison lapped the field at the McClure Cup, going 10 under for 54 holes while no other competitor got under par at Bayonet Black Horse.

Hutchison, who did most of his pulling away in the second round, put together rounds of 69-67-70 for a 206 total. His second-round 67 was the best score of the day by at least four shots. Hutchison represented California at the 2016 USGA Men’s State Team Championship. In 2018, he won the Monterey City Amateur and the Windon Memorial, a college event. He was T-2 at the 2018 McClure Cup.

Oklahoma’s Matt Cohn finished runner-up to Hutchison at Bayonet Black Horse after his even-par total. Elis Svard was another shot back in third.

Sean Yu, the first-round leader from San Jose State, opened with 67 but fell to 76-75 in the following rounds. He finished fourth at 2 over.
