Halvorsen wins St. Augustine Amateur

Andreas Halvorsen rallied in Sunday's final round while Grayson Murray surged into a 2nd-place tie

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (Oct. 20, 2013) — The final round of the 2013 St. Augustine Amateur was a rollercoaster of a day. Players throughout the field had an up and down day. Andrew McCain teed off the first hole with a four-stroke lead over Andreas Halvorsen. Both players shot even front nines with a birdie, bogey, and seven pars, but the back nine would see a different result. “Things just didn’t go my way on the back nine, but I played just the same as the first two days,” McCain said. “Hitting 16 of 18 greens and striking the ball good, just when it could go bad, it did.” As McCain’s score started to go up, Halvorsen’s score went down by enough to become the 2013 St. Augustine Amateur Champion. “I went into the day knowing it would be tough to come back from four shots down, but my plan was to go out there and make pars,” Andreas said. Two months in United States from Norway, Andreas did just that and made enough pars to take the lead by one going into 18. Nothing more than a par secured his victory. McCain finished tied for second alongside Jack Comstock and 2013 U.S. Open participant Grayson Murray, who shot 68 in the final round to sneak back into the top portion of the leaderboard. Jacob Kline (5th), Jordan Batchelor (6th), Andres Schonbaum (7th), Sebastian Barnoya (8th) and Tee Opperman, Michael Balzer and Jose Montano, who all tied for ninth place, rounded out the Top 10.
