Guan shoots 77 Saturday at The Masters

AUGUSTA, Georgia (April 13, 2013) -- While it won't be the storybook ending golf fans hoped for, the final chapter will remain impressive for the youngest player in Masters history. Tianlang Guan, the 14-year-old from China who wowed Masters watchers with a first-round 73 on Thursday, shot 77 in Saturday's third round. In between, of course, Guan shot a 75 on Friday that included a one-stroke slow-play penalty. The ruling became a hot topic across all venues of the sports world. He was able to ride the cut line and gained entry into the weekend when overnight leader Jason Day missed a birdie putt on the 18th hole. The Saturday 77 leaves Guan near the bottom of the leaderboard where he'll tee off Sunday with former Masters winner Sandy Lyle. Guan, of course, was one of six amateurs in the field. He was the only amateur to make the cut.
