At 21-under 555, the Yellow Jackets will take a three-stroke lead into Sunday's final round over the hard-charging Tennessee Volunteers, which shot eight spots up the leaderboard turning in the low round of the day at 16-under 272.
Georgia Tech freshman Hiroshi Tai backed up his opening round 65 with a solid 3-under 69 on Saturday and at 10-under 134, is clinging to a one-stroke lead over Tennessee freshman Caleb Surratt who sits at 9-under (68-67). William Mouw of Pepperdine and Bo Peng of Washington are just three back at 7-under 137.
All four of the Volunteers' counting scores on Saturday were in red numbers. The team's low score of the day belonged to redshirt freshman Lance Simpson, who dialed in a 6-under 66, which was the low round of the day by anyone in the field.
While Surratt moved to within one of the individual lead with a 5-under 67, redshirt junior Bryce Lewis turned in a 3-under 69 while freshman Evan Woosley-Reed fired a 2-under 70 in his collegiate debut.
Georgia Tech didn't exactly come back to the field with a second-round 279 (-9). Christo Lamprecht and Connor Howe matched Tai with rounds of 69, with Lamprecht draining a 60-foot putt from the edge of the 18th green for an eagle to close out his round. Tech also counted an even par 72 from senior Andy Mao.
The final round of the Golf Club of Georgia Intercollegiate will tee off at 9:00 a.m. ET on Sunday.
