George C. Thomas: Three tied for lead with one round left

It's anyone's game in the Mid-Am division, while Gene Elliott enjoys a 4-shot lead over Mike McCoy in the Senior Division

LOS ANGELES, CA (June 21, 2018) - The Los Angeles Country Club was setup more difficult for today's second round of play in the George C. Thomas Invitational, and the scores showed that. Jeronimo Esteve (Windermere, FL) recorded the low score of the day, a 1-under 70, to take the lead in the Mid-Amateur Championship. Esteve narrowly missed out on a Puerto Rico championship earlier this month. (The likable, steady golfer is a member of the World Amateur Team from Puerto Rico, while residing in Florida where he works in the automotive business.) Mike McCoy (Norwalk, IA) and Matt Sughrue (Arlington, VA) both recorded low rounds of the day (1-under 71 in the Senior Amateur Championship. With one round to play, the Mid-Amateur Championship leaderboard is loaded with three top players, and many in contention. Jeronimo Esteve (Windermere, FL), Aaron Hickman (Tyler, TX), and Taylor Wood (Coto de Caza, CA) are at 1-over 143. Gene Elliot continued his solid play and has a 4-shot lead over his fellow Iowan and close friend Mike McCoy entering into the final day with a score of 139.
