Gene Elliott wins Crump Cup

PINE VALLEY, N.J. (Sept. 29, 2013) -- Qualifying co-medalist and No. 1 seed Gene Elliott rode a wave of dominating play to the 2013 Crump Cup championship. Elliott beat Matthew Sughrue, 5-and-3, in the championship match Sunday afternoon at prestigious Pine Valley. The runaway victory in the finale was one of three easy resounding victories for the champion during the match play portion of the event. En route to the final, Elliott dispatched of Keith Decker (6-and-5), John Patterson (6-and-5) and Michael Muehr (1-up) in the semifinal. Sughrue had beaten co-medalist Michael McDermott in the semifinals, winning 1-up. He also beat Scott Harvey (3-and-2) and Roger Newsom (1-up). Other flight winners included Seth Sargent (1st), Tristan Lewis (2nd), Martin West III (Senior), Robert Lewis (2nd Senior) and Grady Brame (3rd Senior).
