Forster, Mahar to meet in final match at Oregon Senior Am

No. 1 seed Ken Forster and No. 10 seed Randy Mahar will go head-to-head in the final match of the Oregon Senior Amateur

SALEM, Ore. (Sept. 6, 2018) – Ken Forster, a Salem, Ore, local, and Randy Mahar of Portland, Ore., will face off Friday in the championship match at the 35th Oregon Senior Amateur Championship. Friday’s 18-hole championship match at Illahe Hills Country Club will commence at 8:45 a.m.

Forster, the No. 1 seed in match play after earning medalist honors during stroke-play qualifying, is playing this week at his home course. He has yet to play the 18th hole in match play thus far.

In his quarterfinals match on Thursday, he defeated 2018 Oregon Amateur quarterfinalist Michael Senatra of Happy Valley, Ore., and in the semifinals, he beat last year’s Senior Amateur runner-up Tim O’Neal of Vancouver, Wash.

Mahar is the No. 10 seed and played with Forster during stroke play qualifying on Tuesday. The 2014 Oregon Senior Men’s Stroke Play champion has had an impressive run to this year’s final match. In Wednesday’s Round of 16, Mahar eliminated five-time champion Pat O’Donnell of Happy Valley, Ore. After defeating Michael Jackson of Redmond, Ore., in this morning’s quarterfinals, Mahar advanced to the championship match by beating Byron Patton of Tigard, Ore., in 19 holes.
