Forster into Oregon Senior quarters as familiar faces fall

Kenneth Forster is looking to advance from the No. 1 seed all the way through the Oregon Senior Amateur bracket

SALEM, Ore. (Sept. 5, 2018) – The quarterfinals are set at the Oregon Senior Amateur, and Kenneth Forster is still in contention. The medalist won his first two matches easily on a double-round day at Illahe Hill Country Club. Forster defeated No. 32-seed Kim Wenger, 7 and 6, then took down Raymond Schuler, 5 and 4, in the afternoon.

Forster, a member at Illahe Hills, is a retired teacher and a 2009 Pacific Northwest Golf Association Hall of Fame inductee. Two more wins, and Forster will make an excellent local headline.

On Thursday, Forster will have to get past No. 24 seed Michael Senatra, who also won both matches on Wednesday but not by nearly as big of margins. Senatra picked off No. 9 seed Mike Pai, 1 up, in the morning and then defeated No. 8 seed Mike Gleason, 2 and 1, in the afternoon.

Defending Bob Harrington had the No. 2 seed, and advanced over Mark Bowder, 2 and 1, in the morning. Harrington, however, fell to Michael Jackson, 3 and 2, in the afternoon.

It was a similar story for five-time Senior Amateur champion Pat O’Donnell. The Happy Valley, Ore., resident took a 4-and-3 victory over Mike Peyton to start the day but fell to Randy Mahar, 1 up, in the next match.

The other three quarterfinals matches will pit Ron Hop against Tim Oneal, Jackson against Mahar, and Byron Patton against Denny Taylor.
