Florida jumps out to huge lead in Sea Best Invitational

The talented trio of Tosti, Horsfield and Garcia lead the Gators to a 19-shot lead over North Carolina after the first round

University of North Carolina freshman and Pinehurst native Joshua Martin got off to a great start at the Sea Best Invitational, being played at the 6,873-yard, par 70 Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedre, FL. Martin's opening round of 64 put him at 6-under, which he followed up with a 2-under 68 in the afternoon round, giving him a one-stroke lead over Florida teammates Alejandro Tosti and Sam Horsfield. Martin had eight birdies and two bogeys in the opening round for his 64. Tosti, a sophomore, matched Martin’s opening 64 with one of his own, and came back to post a 69 in the afternoon for a total of 133. Freshman Horsfield fired a 65 in the morning and 68 in the afternoon to finish his day tied with Tosti at 133. Fellow freshman Jorge Garcia carded a first round 66 and followed it up with a 68 to finish at 138. Today’s final round leaves Florida sitting comfortably. With the Tarheels 19 strokes back, the third-place team from Liberty stands at +9, 26 strokes behind the leaders. North Florida is in 4th place (+14) while Texas A&M is in 5th at +15.
