After 72 holes at various golf courses in the Myrtle Beach area, the flight winners (and ties) in the 63 handicap divisions come together for a final round on Friday to determine the overall champion. For many players – especially those who come back year after year -- this is the goal when teeing it up.
“Keep it in the fairway, get it on the green and two putt,” Doutrich said after Thursday’s round. “And win. I’m just glad to get here.”
Mike Cheeseman put up net rounds of 73-75-70-66 to take the top spot in flight No. 18 (senior men ages 50-59), and whatever happens from here is icing on the cake.
“If I win, it’s a bonus,” Cheeseman said. “If not, I had fun.”
In the gross and senior divisions, the top three players and ties move on to play for the title on Friday. Derrick Oyervides won the gross division on the strength of a final-round 68 while Bobby Stiffler and Todd Stires were second and third, respectively.
In the senior division, Steve Humphrey and Manny DaSilva tied for first while Steve Comings was third.
