THE WOODLANDS, TX (May 22, 2006)--The pairings have been made and an elite field of 54 mid-amateurs and 30 seniors are set to compete in the Carlton Woods Invitational, May 24-26, 2006.
The Carlton Woods Invitational is a 54-hole stroke play event held on both the Nicklaus and Fazio Courses at The Club at Carlton Woods. The field is comprised of a 54-player Mid-Amateur Division and a 30-player Senior Division. Round One will be played on the Nicklaus Course, Round Two will be played on the Fazio Course, and the Final Round will be played on the Nicklaus Course. The field will be cut to the low 50% and ties after Round Two, with the remainder competing in a Consolation Event on the Nicklaus Course.
The club’s stated goal is to develop the Carlton Woods Invitational into one of the most prestigious events in amateur golf, while providing an unparalleled experience to its competitors. “We want to give our players a pure, traditional golf experience”, said Mark Steinbauer, Director of Golf at The Club at Carlton Woods. “We intend to make this tournament the finest of its kind in the U.S., a very prestigious tournament to win.”
In just five years of operation, The Club at Carlton Woods has quickly established itself as a preeminent championship venue. The club has hosted USGA Open and Mid-Amateur qualifying, the 2004 Texas State Amateur, and will host the 2007 USGA State Team Championships. The Nicklaus Course has garnered a host of state and national awards, and with the recent opening of the Fazio Course, The Club at Carlton Woods became the first private club in America with Nicklaus and Fazio designs.
