Field Reduced to eight at Arizona Amateur Championship

Former professional and past champion Ken Tanigawa headlines remaining 8-man field at Moon Valley CC in Phoenix

PHEONIX, Arizona (August 3, 2017) — Eight players remain in the match play field at the Arizona Amateur Championship. Among the highly decorated group left at Phoenix’s Moon Valley CC are 2015 Champion and 2016 runner-up Ken Tanigawa, 2017 Arizona Stroke Play Champion Jake Chanen, and 2017 U.S. Open Qualifier Mason Anderson. Tanigawa defeated opponent Tyler Kathrineberg in the round-of-16 this afternoon by a score of 3 & 2 in a match that he wouldn’t lead in until winning on the 13th. He will face Scottsdale’s, Sam Triplett, who won his match 5 & 3, taking the first hole and keeping control of the match until its conclusion. Northwestern’s Triplett is accustomed to a winning atmosphere, being the son of three-time PGA tour winner, and now PGA Champions tour player, Kirk Triplett. They will both be looking for a win this weekend with Kirk beginning his campaign at the Champions Tour’s 3M Championship on Friday. Quarter-final matches also include 18-year-old Brock Goyden v. 2016 Phoenix Open Champion Sean O’Donnell. Recent Arizona Stroke Play Champ, Jake Chanen, who obliterated his opponent 6 & 5 in the round of 16 will square off against Chad Wilcox of Scottsdale. Mason Andersen will wrap up the morning, playing against the winner of this afternoon’s Muscarello v. Kertson. The fist of four matches tomorrow begin at 7:00 AM UDT with O’Donnell v. Goyden, with pairs following at ten-minute intervals.
