FERNLEY, Nev. (April 29, 2007)-- Tommy Summers prevailed at the Fernley Amateur by beating Joe Sanders in the first playoff hole to win the championship flight.
Summers regained his composure on the playoff hole after missing a short putt on 18 that would have ended the tourney.
The Fallon Golf Club member credits his final round 67 on the push he received playing with Sanders.
“He made me play well and stay in the game. I saw first hand why he is Northern Nevada’s champion two years in a row," said Summers. "He’s a solid player and I just tried to stay with him."
There were only three red numbers on Sunday with the winds reaching 30 mph or more at times.
In the net division, it was David Foster taking home the title.
