Ernie Pieper Santa Clara County: Bramlett wins his 3rd

SAN JOSE, CALIFORNIA (June 4, 2006) -- Joseph Bramlett won his third Ernie Pieper Santa Clara County title on Sunday, breaking a tournament record in the process. Bramlett, who is bound for Stanford this fall, shot 11-under par in the 54 hole tournament played with 18 holes on Saturday and 36 on Sunday. Andrew Biggadike played solid golf in shooting even par for solo second, while Ric Jay won the Senior division at 5-over-par 145 for 36 holes.

Bramlett played impressive golf throughout the event, but it was the final nine that showed his long term potential. After making the turn in the final round at 1-over-par, Bramlett blistered the par-37 back nine with seven birdies for an amazing 30. According to runner up and playing companion Biggadike, it was "like watching Tiger."

"I honestly didn't expect to get the record or even have a chance at it,'' said Bramlett. "I hit poorly yesterday and after my first nine today, I just put it out of my mind.''

The tournament is named for Ernie Pieper, who won the Santa Clara County Championship in an amazing 7 different decades of his life, from his teens through his 70's.
