Doug Hanzel successfully defended his title at the Dixie Senior Amateur with a final round 70 at the TPC at Eagle Trace to win by three

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (Dec. 14, 2014) — Doug Hanzel, winner of the 2013 U.S. Senior Amateur, captured his second straight Dixie Senior Amateur title on Sunday, shooting two-under 70 at the TPC at Eagle Trace in Coral Springs, Florida. After playing the first two rounds at Heron Bay Golf Club in Ft. Lauderdale, where Hanzel posted 69-72 to trail second-round leader Michael Mercier by three, Hanzel moved over to the TPC course to repeat in comeback fashion. Hanzel, of Savannah, Ga., finished the 54-hole event at five-under par. First-round leader Rick Woulfe took solo second place at two-under, though the red-hot Woulfe finished the tournament with rounds of 73 and 75. His six-under par 66 on Friday at Heron Bay led by three after day one. Woulfe entered the event having won three major tournaments in the last two months, including the Crane Cup Senior, Society of Seniors Championship, and Ralph Bogart Tournament. Mercier and Steve Groom took third place at one-under, with Groom firing the second lowest round of the day (72) to jump into the top-three. Mericer, the second-round leader, shot 77 at Eagle Trace on Sunday to fall four shots back. In the Super Senior division, Stephen Rose and Craig Scott tied for first place at five-over par 220, both shooting 77 in the final round. Rose won a playoff for the title. Tom McLean took third place, finishing three shots behind Rose and Scott. His 75 was the lowest round of the final day.
