Derek Meinhart cards 67, leads by four at Carlton Woods

Illinois native Derek Meinhart set the 18-hole tournament scoring record with five-under 67 on Wednesday

THE WOODLANDS, Texas — Derek Meinhart of Mattoon, Ill. broke the Carlton Woods Invitational 18-hole scoring record on Wednesday, shooting five-under 67 in the second round to jump out to a four-shot lead heading into the final day. After shooting 75 on Tuesday, to sit one back of three first-round leaders, Meinhart began Wednesday with three birdies in his first six holes, while also closing with three in his final six. Aaron Hickman of Addison, Texas was one of only two other players under par on day two, shooting 71 to sit at two-over par 146 in second place. Ed Sanchez of San Antonio is in third at 147, while Mark Mance and Alan Coshatt are tied for fourth at 149. Joe Palmer of West Des Moines, Iowa also shot 71, rebounding from an 82 in the first round. In the Senior Division, Lee Sandlin of Dallas posted 68 and will go into Thursday leading Eddie Lyons, Doug Pool, and Larry Nunez by three shots. First-round leader Steven Hakes fell back after 71 with 77 on Wednesday.
