Busby’s 67 was the low round of the day, and it brings him to seven-under par 206 for the Championship.
Trey Winstead of Baton Rouge shot a 68 on Saturday and is right on Busby’s heels at six-under par for the Championship. Both Busby and Winstead are seeking to win their first State Amateur Championship.
Busby, 33, is a reinstated amateur and member at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant. He made it to the Round of 16 at last year’s U.S. Mid-Amateur Championship and has been a mainstay on LGA Championship leaderboards in the past several years.
Winstead, 18, will be competing for LSU beginning this Fall and is looking to set the tone for a promising golf career.
The only other competitors who are under par for the championship are Jacob Bergeron of Slidell (-4) and Nicholas Arcement of Thibodaux (-2).
