Defending champion Jelley among 16 advancing on day one of Oklahoma State Amateur

EDMOND, Okla. — Brendon Jelley, a redshirt sophomore at Oklahoma State, is well on his way to competing for a second straight Oklahoma State Amateur Championship. The 2014 winner from Tulsa, Okla. won two separate 7-and-5 matchups on Monday — one over Sam Greenleaf in the round of 64 and the other over Tyson Reeder in the round of 32. Jelley will square off with Luke Phillips of Edmond in Tuesday morning's round-of-16 match. The tournament is being held in 2015 for the first time ever at the difficult Oak Tree National in Edmond, which is renowned as one of the most challenging golf courses in America. The course hosted last year's U.S. Senior Open, won by Colin Montgomerie, and has also hosted notable events such as the Trans-Miss Championship (2012), Senior PGA Championship (2006), PGA Championship (1988), and U.S. Amateur (1984).
