Defending champion Garrett Rank up four at Canadian Mid-Amateur

Last year's champion fired five-under par 65 on day one of the Canadian Mid-Amateur to jump out to an early four-shot lead

NEW GLASGOW, Nova Scotia — The Canadian Mid-Amateur defending champion jumped out to a four-shot lead on Tuesday at Abercrombie Country Club in Nova Scotia. Garrett Rank fired five-under 65, making no bogeys on his day, to lead Garth Collings and Tyler Wright by four. Rank, the talented Canadian who continues to compete in high-level amateur events as a mid-amateur, finished in a tie for first in the 2014 event with Rob Couture of Texas, defeating him in a playoff for the championship. Rank recently tied for second at the Canadian Amateur, won by former Clemson golfer Billy Kennerly. Collings and Wright posted 69 and are tied for second place, four back of Rank with three rounds to go. Michael Rutgers and former Canadian Mid-Amateur winner Dave Bunker are tied for fourth place at even-par 70.
