Daniel Huizing blows away field at Lytham Trophy

LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England (May 6, 2012) -- Daan Huizing from the Netherlands ran away from the rest of the field on the last day of the Lytham Trophy. In the morning he edged further ahead with a 71 that was not matched by those close to him. Despite the bland conditions only one player equalled the par of 70 in the third round. In the final round he went out in 32 and after the turn had a remarkable twelve shot lead. He was in no mood to create any glimmer of hope for others and came home in a crisis free 36 to finish eleven shots ahead of Moritz Lambert from Germany. The final leader board bore witness to the international entry. Behind the inner from the Netherlands, Lampert from Germany was second, Ben Westgate from Wales third, Paul Barjon from France fourth and Michael Miller from the USA fifth. In the professional golf world, only players who have at some time been World Number 1 have won Open Championships at Lytham since the ranking system was introduced, so it comes as no surprise that Huizing won. He is currently the European Number 1 in the amateur rankings. Yet again Lytham has produced a top drawer winner. His play on the last day was witnessed by his parents who by good fortune were already in London and came up to Lancashire on hearing of his overnight lead. He hopes to complete his degree in Economics in Utrecht before turning professional next year.
