Curtis Thompson leads at Jones Cup

LSU's Curtis Thompson is the first round leader after a 2-under, one shot better than San UCLA's Manav Shah

SEA ISLAND, Georgia (Feb, 3, 2012) – After the opening round of the 8th playing of the Jones Cup Invitational, the leader in the clubhouse is Curtis Thompson from Coral Springs, Fla. Thompson, a 19 year old freshman who plays for LSU, shot a 2-under-par 70 and sits one ahead of Manav Shah of Bakersfield, Calif. a sophomore at the UCLA. Thompson, last year’s Dixie Amateur champion, carded 6 birdies and three bogeys in his round at the Reese Jones designed Ocean Forest Golf Club. Sitting alone in third is Justin Thomas of Goshen, KY at even par 72. There is a three way tie at 73 between Michael Hebert of Orlando, FL, Ben Taylor or Leatherhead, England and Cory Whitsett of Houston, TX. Play continues tomorrow with the second round of the 54-hole championship.
