Muehr, this week's medalist, won his first match 2&1 over Skip Bermeyer before surviving 1 up in the quarterfinals against Matthew Swan. For Knox, famously known as the Masters spotter, it was a pair of 1 up victories over Andrew Price and Danny Simmerman that propelled him through to the final four.
Jeff Osberg reached semifinal number two by the way of wins over 2014 U.S. Mid-Amateur runner-up Brad Nurski 2&1 and Andrew Cutrell in the quarterfinals 3&2. In previous Crump Cup appearances, Osberg had never been past the Round of 16.
His opponent, John Sawin, a three-time San Francisco Golf Club and five-time Merion Golf Club champion, advanced following a 3&2 win over Justin Tereshko and a 1 up triumph against Matthew Mattare.
In the Senior Championship, eighth-seed Alan Fadel defeated senior medalist Pat Tallent and will face Tommy Brennan, who defeated Chip Lutz 4&3, in Sunday morning’s semifinal match. Fadel finished as the 2014 U.S. Senior Amateur medalist.
The second semifinal will feature Jim Lehman and John Pate. Lehman advanced with a 5&4 tally over David Nelson while it was Pate moving on thanks to a 1 up win over Keith Decker.
