Crump Cup: McCoy races to lead

Michael McCoy, a 4-time winner, tied a Pine Valley competitive course record with a 6-under 64

PINE VALLEY, N.J. (Sept. 27, 2012) -- Michael McCoy of West Des Moines, Iowa, tied Bob Lewis’ 31-year old Pine Valley competitive course record as he shot a six-under par 64 Thursday in the opening day of the 88th Annual George Crump Memorial Tournament. A four-time Crump champion, McCoy had seven birdies and a lone bogey on his card to take a five-shot lead over Austin Eaton and Arnie Cutrell in the Open Division. In the Senior Division, Chris Lange of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania and Robert Vallis of Hamilton, Bermuda are tied at 73. In the Open division eighty three players will compete for three flights of sixteen in tomorrow’s final round of qualifying. Thirty seven senior players are competing for three flights of eight.
