Conners, Schenk share North and South Am. lead

Purdue University senior Adam Schenk caught first-round leader Corey Conners of Kent State with a 67 to tie for the second-round lead at the North and South Amateur Championship.

PINEHURST, N.C. (July 3, 2013) — First-round leader Corey Conners has company now. Purdue University's Adam Schenk fired the second lowest round of the day — a 67 — to catch Conners and share the lead with the Kent State golfer after two rounds of the North and South Amateur Championship. Both Conners and Schenk sit at a two-round total of 136, but a hoard of players are hot on their tails. Ten players are within three shots of the lead, including four who are just one back. On Thursday the final 18 holes of stroke play will conclude, leaving way for a 16-player match play tournament to determine the winner. The Men's North & South Amateur Championship is the longest consecutive-running amateur golf championship in the United States. Over the past century, the best in the golf world have vied for its coveted Putter Boy trophy. Former winners include Jack Nicklaus, Francis Ouimet, Curtis Strange, and others.
