Comeback kids: Nevada wins Husky Invitational

With a 12-stroke lead entering the final round on its home course, Washington had to like its chances of winning their own Husky Invitational when final round play began Tuesday morning at Gold Mountain's Olympic Course in Bremerton.

After carding rounds of 277 and 276 on Monday, the Huskies sat at 23-under par and enjoyed a comfortable 12-stroke lead over their closest pursuers, Oregon and Boise State.

It was a Husky world and the rest of the field was living in it - except for Nevada.

The Wolfpack put together a lights out final round of 12-under 276 on Tuesday and rallied from a 17-shot deficit to tie Washington for first place at 18-under 846 and ultimately won the championship by way of a tie breaker. The Huskies left the door open after slipping to a 5-over 293 over their final 18 holes.

It's Nevada's first team title since taking the Olympic Club Intercollegiate in 2019.

Trey Davis led the Pack's final day charge with a 5-under round of 67 while Quim Vidal Mora carded a 3-under 69, which included an eagle on the par-4 finishing hole.

The Wolfpack also counted a 2-under rounds of 70 from Payton Callens and A.J. Lintunen.

"I've been with Nevada men's golf for over a decade now and what these men did out there today was magical," said Nevada head coach Jacob Wilner. "This is something they should be very proud of."

Oregon State's Brandon Eyre wins individual title

Oregon State's Brandon Eyre shot a final round 69 to claim the individual title with a winning score of 9-under 207, clipping Mikey Slesinski of Saint Mary's and R.J. Manke of Washington by a single stroke.

With the title, Eyre, who hails from Salem, Ore., is the first Beaver to win an individual title since Carson Barry at the 2019 Oregon State Invitational. Eyre follows in the footsteps of Spencer Tibbits, who also won the 2019 Husky Invitational.

"It's really hard to win a college event and to do it the first time out is pretty special," head coach Jon Reehoorn said. "I had the opportunity to watch him play high school basketball while recruiting him and he made two free throws with the game on the line. The ability to show up in big moments is something special and it came up again today on the last hole when he made a four-foot slide of a putt to win."
