Colin Prater opens five-stroke Colorado Amateur Championship lead

BOULDER, CO (August 6, 2016) -- Colin Prater of The Broadmoor Golf Club held an eight-stroke lead late in Saturday's round of the Colorado Amateur Championship presented by Webster Investment Advisors, but a slight swing in momentum at the end of the day will leave him with a five-shot advantage heading into Sunday's final round at Boulder Country Club. The University of Colorado-Colorado Springs golfer shot a 4-under-par 66 on Saturday -- the best score of the tournament by two strokes -- to leave him at 5-under 205 overall. The 2016 U.S. Amateur qualifier made five birdies and the only blemish on his card was a three-putt bogey on the 17th hole Saturday. Incoming University of Colorado golfer Spencer Painton of Green Valley Ranch Golf Club narrowed the lead to five by draining 30-foot birdie putts on each of his last two holes Saturday. That gave the former 5A state high school champion a third-round 69 and an even-par 210 total. Colorado State University golfer Jimmy Makloski, from Pueblo Country Club, shares third place at 212 with Cole Nygren of Colorado National Golf Club after they matched 69s on Saturday. Makloski has finished second and third in the last two CGA Amateurs. Defending champion and University of Denver golfer Chris Korte of Lone Tree Golf Club and 2015 CGA Junior Amateur winner Isaac Petersilie of Colorado Springs Country Club are tied for fith place at 213. The leaders will tee off for Sunday's final round at 10:34 a.m MDT.
