Chase Hanna wins Kansas Match Play Championship

On his 19th birthday, Chase Hanna captures the Kansas Match Play title over Sam Stevens, 5 & 3

We are not sure what Chase Hanna had on his birthday wish list, but we can only assume that winning the 103rd Kansas Amateur on his birthday would be right up top.

Hanna, who turned 19 on Sunday, got the best of Wichita junior golfer Sam Stevens by a 5 and 3 margin in the 36-hole final match on Sunday at Indian Hills Country Club.

Stevens, who turned 17 on earlier this month, has one year of high school left before taking his talents to Stillwater to play for the Oklahoma State Cowboys golf team.

The battle between the talented junior golfers was all square after the morning 18-hole session. Hanna used early birdies in the afternoon session to take control of the match and built a sizable lead before closing out Stevens on the 33rd hole.

Hanna, who will play for the Kansas Jayhawks golf team in the fall, adds to his trophy case this summer having already won the 54th Kansas Boys Junior Amateur title last month as well as the Missouri Junior Amateur crown. Congratulations to both Chase and Sam on a phenomenal championship as well as the rest of the championship contestants.

TOURNAMENT NOTE

The Kansas Golf Association would also like to thank the membership and staff of Indian Hills Country Club for hosting the 103rd Kansas Amateur! This is the third time that Indian Hills Country Club has hosted the Kansas Amateur. Previous years were 1985 and 2003.
