Champ, a native of Sacramento, CA, began the month of July by winning the 114th Trans-Miss Amateur Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club, Kansas with nine-under par 201 for a four stroke victory.
A week later, Champ placed second at the 51st Pacific Coast Amateur Championship at Chambers Bay Golf Club in University Place, WA by one shot behind U.S. Amateur runner-up Doug Ghim of Arlington Heights, IL.
Earlier this summer, Champ competed in his first ever U.S. Open at Erin Hills where he finished tied for 32nd.
Champ is currently the number two ranked amateur in the World according to the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com World Rankings, the four ranked amateur according to Scratch Players World Amateur Ranking and number eight by the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
Winners of the SGA’s monthly award are determined by a national panel of golf officials, coaches and journalists. Now in its 14th season, notable recipients have been Bill Haas, Michelle Wie, Hunter Mahan, Ryan Moore, J. B. Holmes, Webb Simpson, Rhys Davies, Kyle Stanley, Kevin Fortin-Simard, Rickie Fowler, Danny Lee, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Alice Hewson, and more recently Lee McCoy & Aaron Wise.
