California kids on top at Callaway Junior World

Beau Hossler is one back after two rounds at the Callaway Junior Worlds at Torrey Pines South

LA JOLLA, Calif. (July 12, 2012) - After several hours of fog delays and early morning and afternoon shotgun restarts, the Callaway Junior World Golf Championships have reached the halfway point with several California kids on top in the Boys 15-17 division at Torrey Pines' South course. Aaron Wise followed a first round 73 with a tournament low 67 and leads at 4-under-par, 140. Beau Hossler, The Mission Viejo phenom who contended in the U.S. Open at Olympic Club last month, carded 68-73--141 and is alone in second. Raymund Gonzales, also of Mission Viejo, sits third with scores of 70-72-142. In the Girls 15-17 division, Benyapa Niphatsophon, Thailand, carded 71-68--139 on the North course at Torrey Pines and leads by three over Bryana Nguyen, Maryland, who shot 71-71--142 for the first two rounds. Hannah Kim, Chula Vista and Aliea Clark, Carlsbad, share third with Fumika Kawagishi, Japan at 1-under-par, 143. If it is possible for a golfer under the age of 6 to have a career round then it was certainly Ryusei Sawada of Japan. He carded an amazing 4-under-par 50 at the short, but tricky, Colina Park Golf Course (home of the San Diego First tee/Pro Kids program) in a round the included three birdies, one bogey and a hole-in-one at No. 12, the 65-yard par-3.
