PORTRUSH, Ireland (June 17, 2014) -- Play has been suspended for the day in the Amateur Championship at Royal Portrush and Portstewart due to persistent fog.

Play will resume at both courses at 7.30am on Wednesday 18 June. Competitors who have commenced their second round and have discontinued play due to the suspension are required to report to their assigned venue for a roll call at 7.00am. Both clubhouses and practice grounds will be open at 6.00am.

Only limited play was possible this morning before thick fog enveloped both courses. This resulted in an eight hour thirteen minute delay at Royal Portrush and a four and a half hour delay at Portstewart. Play resumed at both courses but was subject to further suspensions throughout the afternoon. -Report Courtesy of The R&A
First Round Results:

Daniel Brown fired an opening-round 4-under 66 at Royal Portrush to take the early lead at the 2014 British Amateur Championship.

Brown, a mid-amateur, took eighth place at the 2010 Canadian Amateur and was 31st at the St. Andrew's Links Trophy earlier this season. His one-shot advantage is over a group of five players in at 3-under 67, which includes highly-ranked Ryan Evans of Wellingborough.

Evans, earlier this season, won the Lake Macquarie International and the Avondale Medal. Last year, he took the Berkshire Trophy and Biarritz Cup in France.

Brandon Hagy, who recently wrapped up his career at Cal, is tied for seventh after a 2-under 68 and serves as the lowest American in the field.
