Brendon Jelley repeats as Oklahoma State Amateur champion

TULSA, Okla. — Oklahoma State redshirt sophomore Brendon Jelley successfully defended his Oklahoma State Amateur title on Wednesday with a 3-and-2 victory in the championship match over Jeff Coffman of Oklahoma City. The win for Jelley marks the first time since 1991-1992 that a player has won the crown in back-to-back years. Jelley earned the No. 1 seed at Oak Tree National, which was hosting the tournament for the first time, by means of his 2014 victory. He had no trouble on day one, defeating Sam Greenleaf and Tyson Reeder in separate 7-and-5 victories. On Tuesday, he beat Luke Phillips in the morning 5-and-4 and moved on to defeat Chris Laughlin 3-and-1 in the afternoon. His toughest matchup came Wednesday morning when a 2-and-1 win was needed to squeeze by Bill Bishop before taking down Coffman in the final. Jelley was an integral part of the Cowboy team this spring, snagging top-20 finishes at the John Hayt and Valspar collegiate tournaments while placing top-25 at the Augusta State Invitational and Big 12 Championship.
