Brandon Matthews dominates with five-shot win at Dixie Amateur

Temple University junior goes wire-to-wire at the final Dixie event of the year, shooting a final-round 70 at TPC Eagle Trace

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. (Dec. 22, 2014) — Brandon Matthews, a junior at Temple University, went wire-to-wire at the Dixie Amateur, shooting a final-round 70 at TPC Eagle Trace to capture a five-shot win. With the first three rounds at Heron Bay Golf Club, Matthews slowly built his lead, capitalizing on a first-round 66 to lead by one over Drew Czuchry and Quinlan Prchal. Matthews entered Monday's final round at eight-under, then extended it to 10-under with a 70 at TPC Eagle Trace. Matthews, with his Temple teammate Pat Ross, qualified for the first annual U.S. Amateur Four-Ball at Westmoreland Country Club back in September and will be in the field at Olympic Club in May. Czuchry, who just finished his senior year at Georgia Tech, took solo second place at five-under 283, one shot better than James Clark, also of Georgia Tech. Clark fought his way back after a first-round 74 with scores of 71-68-71 to finish the tournament.
