Brian Blanchard's 67 gives him three-stroke advantage after first round of stroke play

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (August 11, 2014) — After one round of stroke play at Desert Highlands, Brian Blanchard of Phoenix holds a three-shot lead after his 67 on Monday at the Arizona Amateur. Tuesday's second round will end the stroke play portion of the event as match play will then ensue. 64 players will compete in match play. Four players are tied for second place, three shots behind Blanchard, after rounds of 70 on Monday. Blake Cannon, Colton West, Marc Apps, and Rich Morrison sit in second place. There are also four players four shots back at 71. Players battled standard Arizona summer heat as temperatures reached 104 degrees in the desert. Tuesday's forecast high is 98, with it cooling off later in the week due to possible thunderstorms. Desert Highlands is playing just under 7,000 yards at 6,919 and is a par 72.
