Ben Wolcott leads Monroe Invitational at midway point

With a second round even-par 70 Ole Miss' Ben Wolcott sits at 1-under and atop the Monroe Invitational leaderboard

PITTSFORD, NY (June 9, 2016) -- With a second round even-par 70, Ole Miss' Ben Wolcott sits at 1-under and atop the Monroe Invitational leaderboard. Wolcott, who just completed his junior year, will carry a one-stroke lead into the final 36-holes at Monroe Golf Club. After shooting a first round 1-under 69, Wolcott struggled on his opening nine, the course's back nine, with two bogeys. On the front nine things went much better for Wolcott as he quickly got back to even-par for the day with birdies on 1-2. However, he quickly dropped another stroke with a bogey on No. 3 before rebounding once more with his final birdie of the day on the 5th. Wolcott is coming off a successful junior campaign at Ole Miss where he was the top finisher in three events and also notched a career-best tied for third finish at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate. First round leader Andrew McCain faltered during the second round shooting a 5-over 75. A day after McCain birdied five times and bogeyed just one once, the Jacksonville, FL resident didn't card a birdie while bogeying five times. Despite his second round difficulties McCain is only one shot behind and tied for second place. Joining McCain in second place at even-par are Cristobal Del Solar (Florida State), Vincent Whaley (Georgia Tech), Brian Carlson (Purdue) and Thomas Eldridge (UNC Wilmington). In all 17 golfers will begin the third round within five-strokes of the lead including Pittsford resident Gavin Hall of Texas. Third round play will begin tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. EST.
