Asia-Pacific Amateur: China's Guan Tianlang fires 66

14-year-old posts 6-under 66; leads early chase for Masters invite

CHONBURI, Thailand (Nov. 1, 2012) -- With TV cameras broadcasting images worldwide, the focus of the amateur golf world the first week in November is the Amata Spring Country Club in Thailand, host of the 2012 Asia-Pacific Amateur.

Daniel Pearce of New Zealand, a consistent amateur player who captured the 2012 North Island stroke play title, posted a 4-under 68 to take the clubhouse lead early on Day 1.

China's Guan Tianlang is atop the leaderboard, though, after the first round of play after firing a 6-under 66.

In addition to offering its champion an invitation to The Masters, the tournament claims to be the most televised amateur event in the world. The list of broadcasters seems to validate that claim.
