Anna Davis will not play at Augusta National on Saturday after a slow play penalty put her one shot outside the cut. As a 16-year-old, she shocked the world in 2022 when she came out of nowhere to win the Augusta National Women's Amateur.
A final round 3-under 69 made the bucket hat cool and brought the Southern California kid into the spotlight.
Now, for the second year in a row, Davis is dealing with the disappointment of missing the cut to play at Augusta National for ANWA's final round. Last year, he incurred a four-stroke penalty on the opening hole of the tournament when she played lift, clean, and place from the rough twice when the local rules only allowed lift, clean, and place in closely mown areas. She made a 9 on the par 5 and never recovered.
Davis is currently ranked No. 38 in the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Women's Rankings.
This year, Anna Davis' group was told they were behind multiple times. The players were then put on the clock, and Davis was given her first warning on the fifth hole. Then, on hole No. 17, she had a second bad time, which resulted in a one-stroke penalty.
That will certainly make Friday's round at Augusta National bittersweet.
