Andres Schonbaum leads after Argentine Amateur First Round

The field will be cut to the top-64 and match play will commence on Thursday at Pilar Golf Club

BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (November 8, 2016) -- Andres Schonbaum opened the Argentine Amateur with an impressive bogey-free 6-under 66 to take the lead after the first of two stroke-play qualifying rounds. Schonbaum will carry a one-stroke lead into Wednesday's second round at Pilar Golf Club as he looks to lock down the top-seed. Following the completion of play on Wednesday the field will be trimmed to 64 and match play will begin on Thursday. Last weeks first round Tailhade Cup leader, Schonbaum rolled in his first birdie on the 2nd hole before carding three more over the course of the next five holes. After his final front nine birdie Schonbaum turned in 4-under 31 before picking up two more birdies coming home. Kyle McLatchie and Martin Erikkson both fired 5-under 67's and they are tied for second. McLatchie was lifted by a strong finish that included four birdies in the last five holes. Prior to the stretch run, McLatchie was 1-under. While for Erikkson it was a bookend sort of day. Eriksson birdied his first three holes and then birdied three of four from Nos. 14-17. In between he birdied once more and bogeyed twice. Four players, including Florida State senior Cristobal Del Solar, will begin the final day of stroke-play qualifying tied for fourth at 3-under. Due to weather concerns on Wednesday tournament organizers have decided to utilize both tees.
