amateurgolf.com Two Man Links Championship Preview

5th Annual event ready for tee off at Pacific Dunes, Bandon Trails, and Bandon Dunes April 23-26 - Jay Audia and Brad Mombert ready to defend their title with a record 100 player field

Bandon, Oregon (April 21, 2006) -- It's noon on Friday, and we have already had a light, sideways rain, sunshine, and 7-iron-from-125-yards winds. It must be time for another playing of the amateurgolf.com Two Man Links Championship, a 72-hole best ball event that gets ready to kick off with Sunday's first round at Pacific Dunes.

A full 100 player field from 14 states, Canada, and England will compete Sunday through Wednesday in Scratch, Senior Scratch, and limited handicap Net Divisions.

Oregonians Jay Audia and Brad Mombert are set to defend their Championship (they shot 9-under for 72 holes last year) against a strong field that includes the current Trans Miss Amateur Champion (David Bartman) and the recent winner of the Southern California Golf Association Mid-Amateur (Robert Funk). Since Funk and Bartman are on the same team, they would be the apparent favorites. But in links golf, past records and accomplishments have about as much meaning as they do for a hedge fund. Mombert (a former University of Oregon golf team member) and Audia (a wily veteran entrepreneur from Bend) have a great deal of experience on these courses, and the rest of the field includes some high-caliber players that are ready to challenge.

Gil Wymond and Jack Robinson will defend their Senior Division title against a 15 team field that has really grown from last year -- the minimum age in the Senior Division is 50 and we expect some low scores there as well. Kevin MacGillivray and Ken Griffith are not defending their Net title - the field has breathed a collective sigh of relief since these two went super low last year and ran away with the title.
